The Data Governance Conference is a pioneering event focused on advancing data governance across the East African Community (EAC). Organized by Amnesty International Kenya and the Open Institute, this conference aims to bring together key stakeholders from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and beyond to address the most pressing challenges and opportunities in data governance.
Main Theme
Data Governance Frameworks
Exploring effective governance mechanisms and policies for managing data assets and enabling data-driven governance in the East Africa Community countries. This is critical as it addresses the needs for data management, policy compliance, and socio-economic development. Establishing effective governance mechanisms enhances the quality and integrity of data as it ensures data-driven decision-making processes which is essential for sustainable development. A well-defined governance framework enhances transparency in data management practices as it holds organisations accountable for their data handling mechanisms thereby building public trust and confidence in institutions. With the rise of data protection regulations regimes, a robust data governance framework helps East African countries comply with legal requirements thereby minimizing risks related to data breaches and misuse.
